I moved to Alaska some time ago – and one of the things I miss the most are delicious ripe tomatoes. Because tomatoes are shipped up here from the Lower48 or Mexico, they’re picked very early – and don’t taste great, even after allowed to ripen.Mahler Gates to the rescue! I’m in the process of building a cart to move tomatoes from outside to inside the garage – and under the grow light. While we have an abundance of sun in the summer, we have almost none in the winter – not to mention the killer temperatures. My garage is heated, so the plan is to leave them outside until frost is possible, then move them into the garage on a cart under the grow light.A couple of things to mention about the light – it has 3 motes, VEG, BLOOM, and VEG BLOOM. You have to change modes manually with the switch on the back of the unit – presumably not the easiest thing to do if you have it suspended from the ceiling. From the description, here’s the way the switches work:VEG – use this when growing seedlings or the plant hasn’t flowered yet.BLOOM – Use this mode when the plant bloomsVEG BLOOM – Use this after fruit appears and the plant is still growing,.It also has the ability to daisy chain – which is a nice feature. It does have a weird universal socket on one side, but that makes it possible to use whatever native power cords you have. The power input is your standard IEC C13 which is common on computers. It is a universal powered unit.It isn’t 1000W – that’s just kind of deceptive (and I considered removing a star for that) but it is 100w LED, and quite bright.I like it.
